How to Use Instagram to Drive Sales for Fashion Brands

Stalk Your Competitors.

Look at your competitors’ profiles. This is going to tell you what their images look like, what their engagement looks like and what their best photographs are that are getting the most likes and traction. Also look for key hashtags- know which are the key hashtags that are driving a lot of their traffic.

Replicate Your Competitors.

Look at your Instagram profile and start to replicate your competitors. Make sure you’re actually optimized to get more people to follow you. The ultimate goal is to convert those followings into sales.

Poach Your Competitors.

Once you’ve redone your Instagram platform with strong images and it’s all very brand relevant, start poaching your competitors. Look at the people who are engaging on those Instagram pictures. Look at their profiles. For 15 minutes, three times a day, do a combination of three things: like photos, comment on photos, and follow other Instagram users. 15 minutes a day means you’re going to be doing a lot of liking, a lot of commenting and a lot of following- but stay focused.

Look at competitors for the first 10 minutes and use the last five minutes for hashtag research. For example, look up hashtags like #fashion or #womensrtw or #ootd. See who is posting under these tags and start to engage with them. You’ll be surprised with the results you get.

Engage New Converts Aggressively.

Keep the newly-formed converts visiting your account on the platform engaged. Start direct messaging to their platforms. This is a fantastic way of letting them know what new brand offers you have, what new products you’re launching, and any new marketing events you have going on. Start engaging aggressively.

Direct Shoppers to Your Website.

Once they’ve started to engage with you and you know they’re on your platform and up-to-date on everything that’s happening, get them to your website. Use a combination of custom URLs, which are pretty easy to do on Google or any other platform (just do a search for it). Use that in the bio link of your Instagram profile. This will allow you to track and see who’s coming to your platform from Instagram. Because as we all know, it’s pretty tough to track using your regular URL.

Use a Landing Page.

When you track customers and get them to your site, put them on a landing page called “Shop Social” or “Shop Instagram” or “Social”. This page is going to be dedicated to all your Instagram pictures and the corresponding products there that you’re selling. You want this to be a 360-degree shopping experience for that Instagram follower.

Close the Sale.

Wow the shoppers on your page with amazing images and copy, and push them through your funnel to close the sale.
