Do you need a fashion blog for your fashion business? I don’t know. I think so. I’m Syama Meagher, CEO of Scaling Retail, and I’ve been working with brands these days who’ve been really tossing around this question, “How important is it to have a fashion blog? Should you be blogging about your business? What’s so interesting about your business?” All of these things are super critical for you to be examining. But I’m here to tell you that having a fashion business blog, or rather having a blog for your fashion business, is going to be a really useful and effective way of making sure you get SEO on your site, keeping your customers engaged, and also highlighting all the authenticity and all the aspirational values that your brand can offer your customer.
Now, I always like to tell people, “You are selling feelings. You are not just selling products.” It is so critical that you create that connection, not only through your Instagram channels or Pinterest, but through a blog, because that is a unique voice all unto your own, right? Either you’re writing from the first person or you’re writing as the head of the business. But either way, having transparency and authenticity through a blog is going to really help your customers identify and make those repeat purchases. Now, studies have shown that people who have blogs have a much higher probability of getting that sale the first time around, because it gives your customers something that’s sticky. It gives them an opportunity to engage and to learn more about you.
Now, please don’t put up a blog and write one post and update it once a month. If you’re really committed to starting a fashion blog, I suggest that you sit down and write an editorial calendar of all the things that you’re going to be doing over the course of the next six months or so, and start to figure out what point of view is going to be specific for your business. What is your voice going to be like, and how are you going to be conveying that messaging, remembering that every blog post is an opportunity to inject product, but also to inject other brands and to create a more holistic lifestyle for your business.
These days, guys, we are in the business of being media companies. We are not in the business of just selling products. And the sooner you realize that a blog is another way to brand yourself as that media company, you’re gonna be far ahead of the game, not only in search, but also in your brand communication.
