Is it time for a breakup? And by that I mean do you need to break up with your Facebook page? I’m Syama Meagher, CEO of Scaling Retail, and I want to talk to you about the social media channels that you’re on and if you need to be on all of them. You know, oftentimes I tell my clients don’t focus on being everywhere unless you can maintain all of your social media presences. Well, Facebook happens to be a very controversial issue and I’d like to tell you a couple of the pros and cons and why you might want to consider breaking up with that Facebook page. Now, some questions you might wanna ask yourself, “Am I really engaging or activating a Facebook community on my page? Exactly what am I using it for?”
Now Facebook is really smart, right, they have their Instagram advertising and of course the great Facebook advertising that is all run off of Facebook’s Power Editor, but it doesn’t mean that you actually have to have an active community-driven Facebook page to take advantage of these different kinds of advertising options. In fact, simply by having a Facebook page you can actually launch advertising on Facebook and drive all that juicy traffic back to your website. So, when it comes to thinking about if this relationship is working well for you, I want to ask you, are you using Facebook to really create a full conversation? Do you have the budget, the time and energy to cultivate having more likes and followers and getting people to engage with your product? Now of course, this means that you’re not just simply going to be taking images from Instagram or Pinterest and sharing them on to Facebook. I’m talking about real one-on-one communication with those people. They are people after all, right?
So, if you’re thinking about whether or not Facebook is the right fit for you, think about your future long term social media strategy. Instagram these days is really where most of your customers probably are but also a huge percentage of them are on Facebook looking at their newsletter feeds and also looking to have more of a lifestyle communication with the brands that they follow. So if you go through the effort of getting all those followers and likers and people to comment on your page and you’re not being active as well and it’s not a one-to-one communication, then you might want to think about are your customers gonna dump you first before you dump your Facebook page?
